Bagalkot: A video of an incident where MLA Siddu Savadi assaulted a female BJP worker in presence of police during the elections to the seat of president and vice president of the Mahalingapura town council on Tuesday, November 10 has gone viral.
In the 23 member Mahalingapur town council, Congress has 10 seats and BJP 13.
The election for the president and vice president was scheduled on the evening of November 9. Three members of the BJP had demanded the post of President and Vice President for themselves and because their demands were not met they decided to identify with the Congress during the election.
The BJP members – Godavari Baat, Chandini Nayak and Savita Hurakadli – allied themselves with the Congress and filed nomination papers. Savita filed nomination for president and Godavari for the position of vice president.
MLA Siddu Savadi, outraged over these developments, tried to prevent them from participating in the elections and stopped them at the gates of the town council offices.
He dragged and humiliated Chandini in front of the police. Chandini suffered minor injuries due to the scuffle and was later treated for it.
The video of the incident has gone viral and has been met with severe outrage.
