MLA U Rajesh Naik helps in conducting funeral of dist.’s 2nd COVID-19 death

Bantwal: Dakshina Kannada district reported its second death due to COVID-19 on Thursday, April 23.
The dead is the relative of the woman who died of the virus on April 19.
The district administration was facing a challenge to perform the relative’s funeral as the funeral of the woman who died earlier at Mangaluru was protested by residents.
There were protests at few places in Mangaluru against conducting the funeral of the dead relative there. Later, when the district administration decided to conduct the funeral at Bantwal, there were protests there too.
Finally, the administration contacted Bantwla MLA Rajesh Naik Ulipady at 11 pm. Naik immediately spoke with MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and arranged for the funeral in Bantwal.
Naik later stated that as the dead is from the constituency represented by him he colud not let them face such an inhumane situation of not being able to perform the last rites.
After the go ahead from Naik, the administration confidently arrnged for and conducted the funeral.
