MLC defies govt orders, hosts daughter’s wedding

Belagavi: While the state government has asked the public to not hold a gathering to avoid the spread of COVID-19, Government Chief Whip in the Legislative Council Mahantesh Kavatgimath hosted his daughter’s wedding on Sunday and hundreds of people attended the marriage ceremony.

A huge number of people had turned up at the wedding venue since 9.30 am today. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is also expected in less than an hour.

Meanwhile, Union minister Suresh Angadi, State Textile Minister Shrimant Patil, MLAs – Anand Mamani, Mahesh Kumathalli, Ganesh Hukkeri and others attended the programme.

Earlier, on Friday, March 13 the Karnataka government had ordered shutting down for a week all places and activities where people gather in large number including swimming pools, shopping malls, schools, colleges and cinema halls.
