MLC Elections: BJP’s Dr. Dhananjaya Sarji wins South-West Graduates’ seat

Mysuru: The counting of votes for the Legislative Council election in the South-West Graduates’ Constituency was completed late Thursday night at Maharani Science College in Mysuru. JD(S)-backed BJP candidate Dr. Dhananjaya Sarji emerged victorious with a significant margin of 24,111 votes.

In the final round, Dr. Sarji secured 37,627 votes, defeating Congress candidate Ayanur Manjunatha, who received 13,516 votes.

Former MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat, who contested as an independent candidate, garnered only 7,039 votes. A total of 66,497 votes were counted, with 5,115 votes being rejected.

Dr. Sarji reached the required quota of 30,692 votes by the fourth round itself and went on to secure a decisive victory in the fifth round with 37,627 votes. Another candidate, S.P. Dinesh, received 2,518 votes.

The Regional Commissioner, Dr. G.C. Prakash, issued the certificate of victory to Dr. Sarji.
