An accused person who was on the run for 23 years has been arrested by the Mangaluru police on Wednesday.

The accused Bashir, 51, a Ullal resident has been arrested in connection with a chain snatching incident that took place under Urwa Police Station limits in the year 2000. Bashir and his accomplices — Hussain and Moideen Kudroli had on December 17, 2000, snatched a mangalsutra from a woman at knifepoint.

While Hussain and Kudroli had been arrested in connection with the case, Bashir had gone absconding. The court issued a summons against him but he failed to appear before the court nor did he surrender to the police.
