Kavoor: The Manglauru North unit of the ruling BJP held a mass protest here on Saturday, condemning the Congress’ disruption of the Karnataka Assembly proceedings and causing unrest in the state.
The BJP cadre marched from its office in Kavoor till Kavoor Junction raising slogans against the Congress party, which is the principal opposition party in the state.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Dr. Bharat Shetty Y alleged that Congress, instead of supporting the development work, had entered the assembly carrying national flags and disrupted the proceedings, and acted in an “anti-national” manner.
He further accused Congress of not clearly stating its stand on hijab and using the issue for vote bank politics by joining hands with the SDPI. Congress had filled the minds of the girls, who had come for education, with “Afeem (opium) of religion.”
Everyone believes that education should be the path to bringing each person to the mainstream. But, Congress had filled “young minds” with the notion that “religion was more important than education” he alleged and added that this was moving the “Muslim children from the modern era back to the stone age.”
He pointed out that the state government had arrested the accused involved in the murder of Harsha in Shivamogga within 6 hours of the crime taking place. This showed the resolve of the government that such acts will not be tolerated, he said.
Several leaders and office bearers of the BJP North Mandal and from the district, along with scores of party workers, participated in the protest march.
