The Dakshina Kannada district administration has requested the state government to release compensation to the Mangaluru autorickshaw blast victim Purushotham Poojari.
Purushotham Poojari who was in the autorickshaw blast has been working as an autorickshaw driver for the past 25 years. He was living with his wife and two children, while his elder daughter works at a private hospital his youngest daughter is preparing for CA examinations.
Meanwhile, a probe is on to ascertain whether the prime accused in the Mangaluru blast, Mohammed Shariq, has any accomplices in Tamil Nadu, police said here on Monday.
Tension prevailed in communally-sensitive Mangaluru city in Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday following the mysterious explosion in the moving auto. Initially, the police were probing whether it was a case of fire mishap or blast.
However, Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood on Sunday said that the incident was not an accident.
The 24-year-old, hailing from Tirthahalli in Shivamogga district, was carrying the improvised explosive device (IED) in a cooker in an autorickshaw on Saturday when it exploded on the outskirts of this coastal city on Saturday. He received burn injuries in the blast and is currently undergoing treatment in a city hospital.
”…Our priority is to see that he survives, we have to take him to a stage where we can question him,” Kumar said.
The police had termed the blast ”an act of terror with intention to cause serious damage.”
“We found materials that are used in making a bomb such as ammonium nitrate, nuts, bolts and other material from Mohan Kumar’s house where he was staying,” Kumar said.
Police carried out searches at seven places. Shariq is being booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, police sources said.
