Mangaluru: The Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department has directed the Municipal Commissioner of the Mangaluru City Corporation to conduct the mayor and deputy mayor elections as per the reservation roster of the 21st term. The election date is yet to be notified.
As per the roster, the mayor will be from the BCM ‘A’ category and the deputy mayor a woman from the general category.
Confusion had arisen when the state government issued a reservation roster for the 22nd term for 11 municipal corporations on December 26, 2019. This roster had reserved the mayor’s post for general category and deputy mayor’s to woman from general category. The city corporation has not yet conducted the election according to the 21st term.
The Municipal Commissioner has already written to the Regional Commissioner, Mysuru to set the date and conduct the elections.
