A couple from Mangaluru lost Rs 1.51 lakh to a fraudulent travel agency that promised them a package tour to Georgia in Europe. The incident has been reported at the Mangaluru Port Police Station.
The complainant Jacintha D’Souza received a call in December claiming that she had won a gift voucher. She was instructed to collect it from a hotel in Hampankatta, Mangaluru. On December 14, she and her husband visited the hotel, where two individuals named Arbaaz and Priyanka introduced themselves as employees of ‘Dreamy Heavens Club Pvt. Ltd.’ They said that they would arrange travel package deals.
Upon inquiring about a travel package to Georgia, the fraudsters convinced them that such a package was available. Believing them, the couple transferred Rs 1,51,800 to the company’s bank account through multiple transactions. However, when they followed up after three weeks, the contact numbers provided were either unreachable or not responding.
Realizing they had been cheated, the couple lodged a complaint with the police. An investigation is underway in the case.
