Mangaluru: A POCSO court on Thursday ordered the acquittal of a man accused of raping his minor daughters citing a lack of evidence to prove the charges leveled against him.
Abdul Hakeem (48), a resident of Katipalla had been booked under the POCSO Act after his daughters filed separate complaints against him at Mangaluru women’s police station in June 2021.
The complainants alleged that Abdul had raped them when they were minors. The younger daughter claimed that her father sexually abused her for a period of over three years.
Based on their complaints Abdul had been arrested and had been in jail for around 1.5 years.
After hearing the arguments in the younger daughter’s case, Judge K.M. Radhakrishna ordered Abdul’s release and quashed the case against him.
