M’luru: Man arrested for sexually assaulting, blackmailing woman

Mangaluru:  CCB police have arrested a man accused of sexually abusing a woman with a false promise of marriage and extorting money from her.

The accused has been identified as Shan Nawaz (36), a resident of Thokkottu -Permannur.

The CCB police took up the investigation after ac complaint was raised at the Women’s police station about the sexual abuse of the young woman from Moodabidri.

Police said that the accused lured the girl into a relationship by promising to marry her. He had sexually assaulted her on several occasions, in Mangaluru, Mumbai, and in Pune.

The complaint said that Shan Nawaz had clicked nude pictures of the victim and extorted about Rs 1.5 lakhs from her by threatening to make them public. The accused allegedly forcefully fed her drugs.

Police said that Shan Nawaz was previously involved in two narcotics sale cases registered at the CEN police station in Mangaluru city in 2019 and 2020.

Meanwhile, the victim is receiving treatment at a women’s counseling center, police added.
