M’luru: Man wanted in 25-year-old theft case finally arrested

Mangaluru: An accused wanted in a 25-year-old car theft case has been arrested, Mangaluru police said.

The accused, identified as Aslam alias Aslam Pasha (65) a resident of Arenahalli, Piriyapatnam was wanted in a car theft that took place in Mangaluru in 1997.

Case details: 

A case was registered at the Mangaluru South police station on November 11, 1997, about the theft of an Ambassador car. The accused was not found at the time.

Later, Aslam was arrested in a theft case in Mysuru and during interrogation revealed that he was involved in the theft case in Mangaluru. However, he remained in jail at Mysuru.

Mangaluru police had brought him to Mangaluru on a body warrant twice and produced him before the court. He remained in Mysuru jail and was later released. However, the case in Mangaluru was pending against him.

In May of 2015, the case in Mangaluru was declared an LPC (Long Pending Case).

Meanwhile, Aslam had disappeared from the police’s radar. His Peenya address and details about his family were found to be false.

After a lot of investigative work, Manglauru police arrested Aslam on Monday, September 12, from Periyapatna, police said.
