Mangaluru: Kadri Park is getting ready for its annual ‘Fruit and Flower Show’. The administration is expecting huge crowds this year as the popular exhibition is being held after a gap of 2 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The exhibition is being organized by the Kadri Park Development Committee in collaboration with the DK District administration, DK Zilla Panchayat, and the horticulture department.
Starting on the Republic Day of India, the exhibition is usually held for 3 days. However, this year, it has been proposed to extend the duration to 4 days. The duration will be finalized at the Kadri Park Development Committee meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, said Praveen K., Senior Assistant Director, Horticulture Department.
Supplementary works begin
A special cleaning drive is in progress at the park in preparation for the exhibition. Mowing the overgrown grass, and painting work has already begun. The work of cultivating the vegetable and flowering plants which are part of the exhibition was started in the month of October and most of the plants have blossomed. More than 30 types of vegetables are being cultivated.
Ornamental plants
Ornamental flower plants have been brought from Mudigere in the Chikkamagaluru district. The flower plants are being planted in flower pots. More than a thousand varieties of plants will be exhibited this year including marigold, geranium, dahlia, zinnia, etc.
Take home vegetable saplings at Rs 1
Considering the huge response got in previous years, the scheme for distributing saplings for Rs 1 will be continued this year too. In this regard, a plan has been made to grow various vegetable saplings in the Maddadka horticulture area of Belthangadi.
