M’luru: Sarojini Shetty, Chandrahas Suvarna chosen for K’taka Nataka Academy awards

Mangaluru: Two well-known Tulu artistes from the coastline have been selected for the prestigious Karnataka Nataka Academy’s annual awards for the year 2021.

Tulu theatre artiste Sarojini Shetty of Shakthinagar here has bagged the Rangaprashasti award for the year 2021. Sarojini has acted in over 2,500 plays and dramas, 14 Tulu movies, and TV serials. For her acting skills, she has been honored by titles of ‘Abhinaya Abhinetri’ and ‘Ranga Sharade’. She has also been an active member of several drama troupes including Sri Ganesha Nataka Sabha, Cha Parka Kalavidaru, and Sri Lalita Kalavidaru Mangaluru.

Karkala based Chandrahas Suvarna has won the Karnataka Nataka Academy Yuva Rangaprashasti for the year 2021. For the past 41 years, he has been serving the Tulu theatre scene through the Karkala Kalaranga troupe. He has also been organizing drama competitions, workshops to identify, train and encourage young artistes.
