The arrested Umesh is a native of Shivamogga and resides at Markada here. He was nabbed following a tip-off from an auto driver, who had happened to drop the accused at Bandale Cross near Pachanady on the day of the theft.
The accused had stolen valuables from the Daivasthana on Sunday early morning and later he hired the auto rickshaw driven by Prem asking to be dropped at Kavoor. However midway he changed his mind and alighted at Bandale Cross.
Shortly thereafter, Prem came to know of the theft from a policeman and alerted them about the passenger as he had even noticed him carrying a gunny bag. The police alongwith Prem arrived at the spot where Umesh had alighted and apprehended him. Umesh is said to have confessed to the crime.
