M’luru: Two held for leasing flat on forged docs, cheating woman of Rs 5L

Mangaluru: Police have arrested two persons on charges of defrauding a woman by leasing out an apartment on K S Rao road in the city using forged documents.
Acting on the complaint filed by the victim Priya K R, an employee at Radha Medicals in Karangalpady, police on Tuesday, February 1 arrested Pradeep alias Deepak Savio Andrade and Imtiyaz in connection with this case. The accused, police revealed had been arrested for a similar fraud case in the past and were later released on bail.
As per the complaint, Priya was searching for a house close to her place of employment in June 2020 for two years time. The accused Pradeep and Imtiyaz, acting as middlemen showed her an apartment for lease on KS Rao road. The lease amount was negotiated at Rs 5 lac for the 2-year term. They produced forged documents for the deal and even introduced another person as the owner of the said flat.
She was in for a shock when the actual owner of the flat visited the apartment in February 2021. It was then that she realized that she had been cheated of her money and approached the police.
