Mangaluru: Despite a Central government advisory to avoid or postpone mass gatherings in view of the coronavirus outbreak, the Mangalore University has reportedly organised an educational tour. Students and faculty members are slated to depart for the tour to Goa this Sunday.

According to sources, neither the faculty members nor the students are too keen to go on the tour at the time of the outbreak but are reluctantly following the directions.

Clarifying on the issue, university registrar A M Khan informed that the tour is likely to be postponed and communication from head of the department concerned is expected in this regard.

Notably, the district administration has stepped up precautionary measures, including screening of passengers arriving at the airport after few persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Bengaluru. A total of 49 people returning from foreign countries are placed under quarantine in the district, of which five have completed the 28-day cycle.
