A woman’s appeal seeking breastmilk for her premature newborn baby as she wasn’t lactating enough got a good response with several women coming forth to donate breastmilk.
The woman, Anusha (26), a resident of Car Street was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia (a condition that affects some pregnant women). After her diagnosis doctors delivered the baby and it weighed only 90grammes at birth. As the baby was underweight, it was required to be fed 30ml of breast milk every two hours. However, Anusha wasn’t able to produce enough milk owing to the premature delivery and the family had to look for donors.
They tried their luck at the milk bank at Government Lady Goschen Hospital but reportedly it did not have excess milk. Moreover, the family was in financial hardships following the hospitalization of the baby which lasted for nearly two months.
It was then that Anusha took to social media appealing to lactating mothers to donate their milk for her baby. The post was uploaded on Moms of Mangalore, an online social media site for mothers and within a day Anusha was flooded with calls from donors.
On Sunday, nearly two months later the baby was discharged from the hospital as it weighed1.4 kg.
Presently five women from the district are donating their breastmilk for the baby. Anusha is totally elated at the response she got from other lactating mothers which helped her baby’s survival.
