Mangaluru: The Dr Shivarama Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama, housing the Pilikula Biological Park and the Manasa Amusement and Water Park will be run as an ‘ecological authority’ from January 2021.

Presently, the Nisargadhama is being run as a registered Society. It will be functioning as an authority from April 2021 when the new financial year starts.

The decision to convert the Nisargadhama from a Society to an Authority was taken in 2018, however, many factors including the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the actual implementation.

Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district Dr KV Rajendra said that after official conversion is done a proposal of Rs 5 crore will be sent to the government for additional developmental works to develop the area as a major tourist destination.
