Mob assaults Daiva Patri on suspicion that he is gay

Mangaluru: Barke police registered a suo motu case after a video of a mob assaulting a ‘Daiva Patri’ allegedly for being gay went viral on social media.

In the video the mob, including women can be seen attacking the victim, Lokesh Poojary and forcibly shaving off his head. They also removed his ‘Daiva’ bangle.

Though the video of the incident went viral evoking outrage from several people no one came forward to file a complaint. The police however lodged a suo motu case considering the serious nature of the incident.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil in a stern warning said that nobody should take the law into their hands.
