Mobile vegetable market to help farmers sell their produce

Udupi: The School of Management, Manipal in association with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) have initiated the mobile sale of fresh vegetables in various places across Udupi and Manipal.
The initiative will be inaugurated by district minister Pramod Madhwaraj at Tiger Circle, Manipal today.
The local agencies will help them sell their vegetables directly to customers without the help of middlemen.
Farmers from over ten villages have formed a co-operative society named as ‘Tarkari Belegarara Sauharda Society’ which will help farmers sell their produce in Manipal and Udupi through mobile markets.
The vegetables will be sold at a designated spots in Udupi and Manipal on a daily basis. The mobile numbers of the customers will be collected so that they are informed in advance about the availability of vegetables.
Addressing the media on Wednesday Raghavendra Bhat said that selling fresh vegetables has been difficult due to the presence of middlemen in the market.
“The sale of fresh vegetables in mobile vans can fetch the appropriate rate for the vegetables for the farmers who produced the vegetables. The farmers Sauharda members will initiate the sale of the fresh vegetables directly to the consumers, at certain places in Manipal and Udupi,” he added.
