Bengaluru: In view of the Model Code of Conduct, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer of Mandya parliamentary seat N Manjushree has prohibited screening of movies starring Sumalatha Ambareesh and Nikhil Kumaraswamy on Doordarshan till voting concludes. The order, however, is not applicable to private TV channels and theatres.

Actors-turned-politicians – Sumalatha Ambareesh and Nikhil Kumaraswamy – will be contesting each other in Mandya seat.

Sumalatha who decided to take the political plunge after the demise of Ambareesh chose to contest as an Independent candidate from Mandya after the Congress leadership offered Mandya seat to its alliance partner JDS as per seat sharing arrangement finalised by them.

Notably, Sumalatha was accompanied by several Congress and JDS party workers as she arrived to file her nomination papers today hinting towards an interesting fight between the two.

Mandya goes to vote on April 18 in the second phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections.
