Bengaluru: The state Congress on Sunday expelled Bengaluru city youth Congress general secretary Mohammed Haris Nalapad from the party for a period of six years for mercilessly assaulting a youth on Saturday night.

Congress MLA from Shantinagar N A Haris’s son Mohammed Haris, allegedly assaulted a youth at a posh restaurant situated in UB city on Saturday evening. The quick action by the Congress is viewed as a push to control harm to the party as the Assembly elections are in the run.

KPCC president G Parameshwara said in his tweet “”Atrocities in any form is not tolerated in @INCKarnataka. Legal actions have been taken against those responsible. The victim will be served justice,”

The attack was condemned by the opposition BJP party as they accused Congress of trying to safeguard Mohammed Haris. BJP leader R Ashoka said that the attack is highly condemnable. Inspite of the brutal attack on the youth, the police have not filed attempt-to-murder case on Mohammed. The culprit should be arrested at any cost. The former deputy chief minister visited the victim at Mallya Hospital, where the victim is getting treatment.

State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa tweeted “I am appalled at and strongly condemn the ghastly attack by MLA NA Haris son on innocent Vidwath. @CPBlr Police must arrest the culprit and his goons to restore public confidence in the rule of law. Congress MLA must counsel his absconding son to surrender,”
