Monkey fever: Entry into tourist places banned

Hebri: In the backdrop of the spread of monkey fever also known as Kyasanur Forest Disease in Udupi district, entry to Kudremukh National Park, waterfalls and trkking areas has been banned.
In accordance to the district administrations order, Hebri Megadde-Kudlu surroundings development committee under the Karnataka Forest Department’s Someshwar Wildlife Zone has already installed information board stating the ban on entry along the way to Nadpalu Kudlu waterfalls.
Places where entry is banned
Visitors entry has been completely banned to Kudlu waterfalls in Nadpalu village coming under Someshwar Wildlife Division, Jomlu falls near Hebri Santakatte, River Sita Nisargadhama, Narasimha Hill and Kudremukh limits Onakabbe waterfalls at Amavasabailu, Kodachadri mountains near Kollur and all trekking and waterfalls areas in Kundapur have been banned from tourist entry.
Suspected case in Albady
Kundapur: A forest officer from Madamakki Albady has been admitted at Manipal hospital with symptoms of monkey fever on Saturday. The DHO Dr Rohini and Malaria control officer Dr Prashanth Bhat visited Manipal hospital and met the patients as well as the treating doctors.
One monkey carcass found
A monkey carcass has been found at a farm near Rattady on Saturday. The health department has been informed and necessary action has been taken.
Medicine inventory
Answering a question regarding monkey fever, Dr Jayamal said the work has been done from the ministry of health and an inventory of the necessary medicine has been done, she informed.
“Monkey fever normally spreads through the ticks on the monkey’s body. There is rise in ticks from January to May. Since there is no dedicated injection for this condition, entry into the forest until the summer season ends has been banned,” said Vanishri, Zonal officer, Hebri
