Monkey fever: Visit from World Health Organization

Udupi / Karkala / Siddapura: The team from World Health Organisation (WHO) which has been visiting the hospitals were lie admitted the patients infected by monkey fever or Kyasanur Forest disease (KFD) in the state, visited the Kasturba Hospital to collect information regarding the ground reality on Wednesday Feb 6th.

The joint director of the Health Department’s Mysuru division was also with the team. The team had talks with the officials of the district health department, the chancellor of Manipal University, KMC superintendent and with the MCVR team.

4 more carcasses found

The deaths of monkeys in Udupi district has continued and 4 more monkey carcasses have been found at different locations on Wednesday. One monkey carcass each has been found at Shirlalu near Karkala, Belman, Hiliyana near Avarse and Valturu in Kandluru respectively. Samples of two monky carcasses have been sent for lab testing.

District survey

A person from Hallihole, suspected of being infected of monkey fever had been subjected to tests. But the test gave a negative result.

Till now 26 persons have been subjected to tests in the district and all have given negative results. Survey, awareness programmes, distribution of DMP oil is being conducted throughout the district.

KMC: 25 persons undergoing treatment

Till date, around 163 persons from Sagara and surrounding areas in Shimoga district have been admitted to Manipal Kasturba hospital for suspected monkey disease of which, 25 persons are still undergoing treatment.
