Monsoon drenches Karavali coast; Wet weather predicted for next two days

Mangaluru/Udupi: Monsoon has picked up the pace again on the Karavali coast, with good rainfall observed throughout the day on Friday.

In Manglauru city, heavy rain that started in the morning on Friday gave a little respite in the afternoon. The weather was wet, cloudy and gloomy throughout the day. As evening wore on, chilly winds picked up and the downpour continued.

Heavy precipitation was also witnessed across the district including Puttur, Uppinangady, Kadaba, Subrahmanya, Sullia, Belthangady, Dharmasthala, Naravi, Bantwal, Kanyana, Surathkal, Ullal, Moodabidri.

In Sullia and Kadaba taluks, the intensity of rain reduced slightly as compared to the past few days.

Wet weather was reported from the neighboring Udupi district too. Parts of Udupi, Karkala, Byndur, and Kundapur received heavy rainfall. Low-lying areas in Brahmavar, Udupi city, Malpe, Manipal, Perdur, Hiriyadaka, Kapu, Padubidri, Ajekaru, and Hebri were waterlogged due to the incessant rains.

Heavy rains expected

IMD has predicted the heavy rainfall to continue at least for the next couple of days along the coast. A red alert was issued till 8.30 am on August 5, which was later downgraded to an Orange alert till 8.30 am on August 7. The weather report said that heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds and sea swell are predicted to continue.
