Moodabidiri: In a shocking incident, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl who was waiting her turn at the Community Health Center was mauled by a stray dog on Friday.

The girl, who was accompanied by her parents, was sitting on a chair at the entrance of the CHC when the dog attacked her. She sustained scratch marks on her cheeks and other parts of her body in the attack.

It is gathered that the girl received one dose of the injection for dog bites at the government hospital. However, the parents had to procure the second dose from a private pharmacy due to its unavailability at the government facility.

Locals said the stray dog is known for its ferocious temperament. The same dog attacked and bit two others earlier in the city, they said.

Locals said that the stray dog menace has increased since the Covid pandemic in Moodabidri. The public is facing problems due to the uncontrolled rise in the stray dog population, they added.
