A 19-year-old student lost his life after his bike was struck by a private bus near Handel in Todari on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Karthik, a student of Alvas college, Moodbidri. Another student from the same college, identified as Harsha, miraculously survived the accident with minor injuries.

Karthik Acharya was the only son of Chandrahasa Acharya, owner of Rajeshwari Jewellers in Edapadavu.

The incident occurred when Karthik was heading home on his bike after attending his classes. A private express bus, en route from Mangalore to Moodbidire, attempted to overtake another bus when it suddenly veered to the right side, colliding with Karthik’s bike.

Despite wearing a helmet, Karthik was unable to survive the impact. Preliminary reports suggest that the bus driver’s excessive speed and careless driving were responsible for the fatal accident.
