Moodbidri: Bartenders assault man for failing to pay bill, land in jail

Moodbidri: The Moodabidri police has detained three persons, staff members of an upscale bar in the town for the alleged assault on a customer.

The victim, Ajay, 21, from Bikaner University was in town to participate in the five-day 79th All India Athletics Championship being held at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri. Ajay had gone to the bar with few of his friends after he did not make it through the initial selection rounds in his category.

At the bar, they drew up a bill of around Rs 2,600 but instead of paying up the amount they are said to have fled the place.

As per the police, the three staff members identified as Narayana, Praveen and Dayananda had chased the group and having caught hold of Ajay they assaulted him before recovering the bill amount. Acting on the complaint lodged by Ajay, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital the police arrested the trio.

The accused have been sent to judicial custody by the jurisdictional magistrate.
