Moscow on Saturday began distributing the Sputnik V shot through 70 clinics, marking Russia’s first mass vaccination against COVID-19.
The city’s COVID-19 task force said the vaccine will first be administered to medical workers, teachers and social workers as they are at high risk of exposure to the infection. The Sputnik V vaccine is administered in two injections.
According to Reuters, Moscow, the epicentre of Russia’s coronavirus outbreak, registered 7,993 new cases overnight, up from 6,868 a day before and well above the daily tallies of around 700 seen in early September.
