MP Nalin Kumar Kateel advocates for revival of direct cruise service from Mangaluru to Lakshadweep

Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel has instructed the district administration of Dakshina Kannada to initiate measures for the commencement of a cruise service to Lakshadweep from Mangaluru.
Currently, tourists wishing to access Lakshadweep typically embark from Kochi in Kerala via ship or flight, as there are no direct services from Mangaluru to the island.
Despite being geographically closer to Mangaluru than Kochi, travelers from around the world are required to pass through Kochi to reach Lakshadweep. Interestingly, various goods, including building materials, fruits, and vegetables, are already being shipped to Lakshadweep from the old port of Mangaluru.
Notably, in the past, a cruise liner operated from Mangaluru to Lakshadweep, providing tickets at a nominal price ranging from Rs 250 to 300. This service also included a separate tour package. Unfortunately, this particular cruise service has been discontinued for several years.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has highlighted the keen interest expressed by netizens through social media platforms in visiting Lakshadweep. Addressing the matter, he has urged the deputy commissioner to take the necessary steps for the revival of the cruise service based on information provided by his office.
This move is expected to not only cater to the demands of enthusiastic travelers but also potentially boost tourism in the region.
