In a tragic incident, a mother-daughter duo were burnt alive after petrol was sprayed on their hut and set ablaze in Belagali village here.

The deceased have been identified as Zabeena Pendari (60) and Shabana Pendari (20). Another person Siddiqi survived the incident, while Dastagir Saab Pendari sustained injuries and has been admitted to Mahalingpur Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred at night when the family of Dastagir Saab Pendari was sleeping in the shed on their farm. Miscreants filled a Syntex tank with petrol, sprayed it on the shed using a motor, and set it on fire. They allegedly also locked the shed’s door from the outside to ensure the entire family could not escape.

The charred bodies of the mother and daughter were recovered from the spot.

Mudhol police visited the scene for inspection. SP Amarnath Reddy also visited and took a detailed account of the incident. A dog squad has been deployed to track down the culprits.
