Mudipu: A pedestrian died after being hit by a car while crossing the road at Mudipu Junction on Friday afternoon.
The deceased, Siddique (48), a resident of Karopadi in Bantwal, was employed in the Gulf and had returned home about 2 months ago.
Siddique, who resided in a flat in Deralakatte, had been to the Karopadi Masjid for the Juma Namaz on Friday. While returning to Deralakatte, he alighted at Mudipu Junction and withdrew money from the ATM. While crossing the road to catch the bus, he was struck by a car, heading towards Mangaluru.
Siddique sustained severe head injuries and died en route to Natekal Kanachur Hospital.
It is gathered that Siddique was scheduled to return to the Gulf nation for work next week. The deceased is survived by his father, mother, wife, and three children. A case has been registered at Mangaluru South Traffic Police Station.
There have been accidents at the same location earlier. On December 27, 2022, a boy named Karthik (12) died in an accident while crossing the road opposite Mudipu Junior College. In the Mudipu area, shopkeepers have illegally occupied the footpath, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road, resulting in frequent accidents, locals alleged.
