Mumbai: Vanita Gaikwad, a 38-year-old woman has been arrested by the property cell of the Crime Branch for allegedly stealing 2,500 dollars (approximately Rs.1,85,360).

Vanita works as a house help and reports reveal that she has been arrested over 50 times for house theft since 2006. The accused has been convicted in several such cases.

The police informed that she keeps changing her name in order to not get caught.

When the police were investigating a case of house theft filed by fashion designer Deepika Ganguly, a resident of Vile Parle (West), the accused was caught.

When asked for documents, the accused told Deepika Ganguly that she lost them and would submit them in a few days. Although, Gaikwad managed to steal within 10 days of being hired.

Senior inspector Shashikant Pawar of the property cell told the Indian Express, “She has been arrested over 50 times now. She has been convicted several times.”

It was also found that the accused used to contact the watchmen of societies to find her victims.
