Mumbai is the most expensive city in India for expats: Survey

As per a recent survey, Mumbai is the most expensive Indian city for expatriates and is ranked above major cities like Buenos Aires, Melbourne, Frankfurt and Atlanta.
According to Mercer’s ‘2020 Cost of Living Survey’, Mumbai is the 60th most expensive city for expatriates globally and ranks 19th in Asia.
The survey is designed to help multinational companies and governments determine compensation strategies for their expatriate employees.
Followed by Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai are considered to be the most expensive cities.
The survey said that Bengaluru (171) and Kolkata (185) are the least expensive Indian cities in the rankings
However, the list was topped by Hong Kong, followed by Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) in second position, Japan’s Tokyo and Switzerland’s Zurich are in the third and fourth positions, respectively and Singapore is in the fifth position
New York is used as the base city and all cities are compared against it and currency movements are measured against the US dollar.
The survey includes 209 cities across five continents and measures the comparative cost of more than 200 items in each location, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment
