Mangaluru: The search for businessman Mumtaz Ali, the brother of former MLA Moideen Bava, who went missing early this morning, is ongoing. Authorities intensified their search efforts in the river near the Kulur Bridge after a car belonging to him was found at the site.
Diving experts, including a team led by Eshwar Malpe, along with various rescue teams, are actively engaged in the search operation. Former MLA Moideen Bava is also present at the scene, monitoring the ongoing efforts.
Speaking to reporters, diving expert Malpe said, “We have conducted search operations to a depth of seven meters, but so far, nothing has been found.” The search is currently being conducted within a radius of 100 meters, and teams have descended into the water below the bridge. Ongoing construction at the bridge has added to the complexity, with iron rods and cement bags obstructing visibility underwater. Malpe noted that the darkness below the surface is making the operation challenging.
He further stated, “If he fell here, he should be found in this area; it wouldn’t reach the sea so quickly. All teams are continuing the operation, and we hope he is alive.”
District Collector Mullai Mugilan, along with MLC B.M. Farooq, and Ivan D’Souza, have also visited the site to oversee the situation.
