Mundgod: In a twist of fate, two people, who were traveling to attend a relative’s funeral, were killed when their car fell into Ammaji lake in the town on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Raju Varghese and Blessy. They both were from Arashinageri village in Mundagoda taluk, but had relocated to Bengaluru for work reasons, sources added.

In the early hours on Monday morning, the man behind the wheel lost control and the car plunged into the lake waters. It is suspected that both were killed due to drowning.

It is learnt that the victims were on their way from Bengaluru to Karavalli Taluk to attend the funeral of a relative. But fate had something else in store for them.

The car was lifted out of the water with the help of a crane.  Fire brigades and police personnel helped recover the mortal remains. Further investigations are underway.
