MUP to release book on pictorial journey by Astro Mohan

Manipal: Manipal Universal Press (MUP) will release its 149th publication, Udupi-Manipal: A Pictorial Journey by Astro Mohan. It will be released by the Chief Guest, Deputy Commissioner, Udupi Hephsiba Rani Korlapati at Udupi Nirmithi Kendra, Manipal at 5.00 pm on February 22, 2019. Laxman B Nimbaragi, Superintendent of Police, Udupi district; and Satish U Pai, Managing Director, Manipal Media Network Limited, Manipal are the guests of honour for the function. Dr H Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal will preside over the function. The book release will be followed by a musical performance by Mani Nalkuru.

This picturesque book portrays the history and people of Udupi and Manipal and takes the reader on a photographic tour of the district. Some of the breath-taking locales are presented with rich, full-colour images taken by Astro Mohan, renowned news photographer of Kannada daily, Udayavani. These images, combined with text in English and Kannada, illustrates the visual wonders such as ancient megaliths, scenic islands, magnificent artwork, white-sand seashores, rainforests, and both classic and innovative architecture.

Astro Mohan is an internationally renowned news photographer who has worked in the area of photo journalism and is currently Senior News photographer of the Kannada daily Udayavani. An incredibly versatile person with a rare blend of multiple talents, Mohan is also a magician, astrologer, palmist, orator, cine actor, artiste, art critic and to top it a prudent organiser of shows. It was his intense interest in astrology which led to him being nicknamed as “Astro”. Astro Mohan is a distinguished member of many photography associations like Photography Society of America (PSA), Royal Photographic Society (RPS), Director of Karnataka Photographers Association (KPA), etc. He teaches at various universities and has conducted numerous photography workshops for over a decade. He has earned over 330 National and International prestigious awards till date, has travelled and exhibited his photos worldwide and has also been felicitated by various photography associations.
