An 82-year-old man died after being hit by a car while he was out for a walk at the Manasagangotri campus of Mysuru university on Friday evening.
The deceased RK Kulkarni had served as an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer for over three decades until his retirement 23 years ago.
The accident seemed like a hit-and-run case but after examining the CCTV footage police suspect it to be a planned murder.
In the footage, Kulkarni is seen taking a stroll on the campus when the car comes and hits him. The driver then speeds off the spot.
Police said that the vehicle did not have a number plate.
A NDTV report, quoting an official stated that it was unusual for four-wheelers to take this route.
“It was a narrow lane less taken by four-wheelers. It seems the accused had been following Mr Kulkarni,” the report mentioned.
Police have formed three teams to nab the culprit. The motive of the murder is yet to be ascertained.
