Udupi: Udupi Muslim community leaders visited Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt and presented fruits to the seer on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr here on Friday June 15th.

A “sneha koota” was organized last year by the seer at a dining hall in the outer precincts of the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple complex here. But the move attracted a lot of controversy. Hence , a couple of weeks back, the seer said that no final decision had been taken on holding a similar get-together this year as the Muslim leaders were not keen following last year’s controversy.

After meeting the Muslim leaders, the seer spoke to the media and said that  he was planning to organize a ‘sneha koota’ involving members of all religions including Hindus, Muslims and Christians. But, he could not go ahead with it since he did not get sufficient time to plan it as he was on a tour to North India.

“I’m thinking of holding a ‘sneha koota’ and not an iftarin the coming days. Last year too, I had held a sneha koota, but it got publicised as iftaar. I have good relations with people of all religions. All communities should live in harmony and there should be peace in the country,” said the seer.

“Since the holding of ‘sneha koota’ generated a lot of controversy last year, we ourselves urged the seer not to hold it,” said Ansar Ahmed, leader of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and informed that he along with other members of the Muslim community visited the seer every Ramzan.
