Mysuru: The Gajapayana of the world-famous “Mysuru Dasara” was flagged off at Nagarahole National Park, here on Sunday.
The Gajapayana of nine Dasara elephants (Arjun, Dhananjay, Gopalswamy, Bhima, Mahendra, Kaveri, Chaitra, and Kaveri) led by elephant Captain Abhimanyu were offered puja as per the rituals by District In-charge Minister S T Somashekhar and State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti.
Amid slight drizzle, the Gajapayana began from Nagarahole National Park towards Mysuru’s Aranya Bhavan at Ashokapuram. The elephants are expected to reach the Mysuru Palace by August 10.
Meanwhile, Minister Umesh Katti was observed wearing shoes and offering puja to the elephants.
During the programme legislators H P Manjunath, C N Manjegowda, Mayor Sunanda Palanetra, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bagadi Gautham, and other officials were present.
