Bengaluru: The world-renowned Mysuru Dasara festival will kick off on October 3, with the grand Jamboo Savari scheduled for October 12, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced.

Speaking to the press after attending a high-level committee meeting at the Vidhana Soudha’s conference hall on Monday, CM Siddaramaiah revealed plans for a grand celebration this year.

“We have decided to celebrate Dasara with grandeur this time. Due to COVID-19, last year’s festivities were not as grand. Last year, the budget was Rs 30 crore, and this year, the expenses may exceed that,” he said. The responsibility of deciding who will inaugurate the Dasara festivities has been entrusted to Mysuru District In-Charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa.

21 Days of Illumination:
The CM outlined that cultural programs, illuminations, exhibitions, wrestling matches, youth celebrations, and sports events will all commence on the day of the Dasara inauguration. He emphasized the importance of providing opportunities to local artists, stating that “our artists are highly capable.” He also stressed that the tableaux should be more attractive and meaningful.

The festival will showcase various aspects, including art, culture, literature, sports, food, exhibitions, wrestling matches, and illuminations. The illumination will continue for 11 days after the Jamboo Savari, making it a total of 21 days of captivating festivities. The CM has instructed the concerned authorities to ensure that every element is both attractive and meaningful.

Request to Extend Air Show Duration:
The CM mentioned that the ‘Karnataka Sambhrama 50’ celebrations will continue until November. He stated that events should be planned keeping this in mind. Additionally, a request will be made to Union Minister Rajnath Singh to extend the duration of the air show, with a formal letter being sent to him. The CM assured that the air show will be conducted for an extended period if approved.

The meeting was attended by MLAs from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, and Srirangapatna constituencies.
