Mysuru: Elephant panics on sound of firecrackers during Dasara celebrations; runs amok

Mysuru: The elephant carrying wooden Howdah got scared at the sound of crackers and beating drums during Dasara festivities at Srirangapatna on Saturday, October 9.
The elephant Gopalaswamy, who was carrying the Chamundeshwari idol in a wooden Howdah became restless scaring hundreds gathered to witness the Dasara procession.
However, the mahout controlled the elephant, averting a major tragedy. Later, the organizers ensured that the wooden howdah was placed on a silver chariot which was taken out in procession.
District In-Charge Minister Narayana Gowda gave Rs. 3000 cash prize to mahout who controlled the elephant.
