Mysuru: A group of final year students from the Department of Electrical Engineering in the Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering here have made a low cost environmentally-friendly electric car.
The students – Saima Zulfa, MNV Shweta and J Nandita – built the car as their final year project with guidance from the department’s professors Dr Gopal Reddy, HK Pooja and Dr Shobha Shankar.
The 130-kilogram weighing car was built at Rs 60,000. It can be fully charged in 4 hours and can travel for 40 kilometres in one charge.
“Although physical classroom sessions could not be conducted for the students due to the lockdown, all efforts were made to provide them with practical sessions. It is a matter of pride that three students of our college made the most inexpensive electric vehicle in those sessions. It is our hope that this achievement will contribute to the betterment of society,” said the principal of the college Professor Sadashiv Gowda.
