Mysuru: In a shocking incident, a man in HD Kote taluk has been arrested for reportedly confining his wife for 12 years over suspicion of infidelity.
The Accused has been identified as Sannalaiah, a resident of Hyrige village.
The woman, the man’s third wife, has two children and was kept isolated in a house in the village of Hyrige, secured with three locks.
Sannalaiah had taken extreme measures to isolate his wife, sealing the windows and denying her any opportunity to communicate with the outside world. Due to the absence of proper toilet facilities in the house, the woman was forced to use a bucket for her basic needs.
Upon receiving information about the situation, a team including lawyer Siddappaji, Jayasheel from Santhvana Kendra, ASI Subhan, and others visited the house. The police, along with the team, rescued the woman and her children by breaking the locks and doors overnight.
The villagers were initially hesitant to speak out due to Sannalaiah’s erratic beahviour and threats. His intimidating behavior had instilled fear in the villagers, discouraging them from sharing information. Despite multiple Nyaya Panchayats held in the village, Sannalaiah continued his actions without remorse. Reportedly, Sannalaiah’s previous wives had left him unable to bear his torture.
Acting on the woman’s consent, the police have provided shelter for her. A case has been registered at the HD Kote Police Station. Further investigations are underway.
