Mysuru: Good news for passengers in city buses of Mysuru as they will soon have free access to the internet. The KSRTC unit in Mysuru will hold the title of the first city transport authority in the state to set up Wi-Fi modem in the city buses.
The city has 430 city buses which move on different routes and more than half of the city’s population travels by it. Eventually, all the city buses will start providing free internet to the passengers from the first week of February. Each bus will have its own modem and the passengers can get access to current affairs, online news and video accessible web portals. Access to social networking sites and porn websites will be blocked.
Passengers can get the internet access to the city bus with an OTP (One Time Password). According to KSRTC City transport division controller KH Srinivas the main reason behind setting up of modems is to entertain the passengers and to attract more number of commuters to public transportation. The internet access is completely free of cost to the passengers.
Opinion from the public is positive as they feel it is a good initiative to keep the passengers entertained in the traffic. It will be a great source of information about current affairs as most of the youths nowadays are addicted only to social websites.
The project is handed over to KPIT. The work is expected to finish by the end of January and will officially launch next month.
