In yet another case of honor killing reported from the state, a man murdered and dumped the body of his 17-year-old daughter allegedly over an intercaste relationship with a boy from another caste in Mysuru’s Periyapatna taluk
The accused Suresh, who belongs to the Vokkaliga community surrendered before the police on Tuesday, June 7 a day after committing the crime.
According to the police, Suresh strangled his daughter Shalini to death in the wee hours of Monday and then dumped her body on farmland in Mellahalli village.
Shalini had been in a relationship with a Dalit boy from Mellahalli village for nearly three years. When her parents came to know about the same, they lodged a complaint against the boy as she was a minor. However, when the police questioned Shalini she gave a statement that she loves the boy and did not want to go home with her parents. Following this, the police sent her to an Observation Home.
Recently Shalini called her parents and said that she wants to return home. Her parents obliged to this. When Shalini again expressed her desire to marry the Dalit boy her father reportedly got angry and killed her, police said.
