Naidu to address National Press Day event

New Delhi: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the valedictory event on the golden jubilee of National Press Day on November 16 here, the Press Council of India (PCI) said today.
Union ministers Smriti Zubin Irani and Rajyavardhan Rathore will also attend the function, the council said in a release. PCI chairman Chandramauli Kumar Prasad will preside over the function.
There will be a discussion on ‘Challenges Before The Media’ and distribution of ‘National Awards for Excellence in Journalism, 2017’ as part of the function, the release said.
Around 30 delegates from media councils and similar bodies across the world will be present on the occasion, it said. On the sidelines, between November 16-18, the World Association of Press Councils has scheduled its executive committee meeting and a session on proposed establishment of Alliance of South Asian Press Councils, it added.
President Ram Nath Kovind was to address the valedictory event, but due to some changes is his schedule he would not be present and Naidu will inaugurate the programme, a PCI official said.
