Nails on road to Datta Peeta: Absconding accused surrenders in court

Chikkamagaluru: A person, wanted for his alleged role in throwing metal nails along the route to the disputed place of worship ahead of the Datta Jayanti celebrations on December 6, surrendered before a court here.

The accused Azam Pasha, a resident of Gauri Canal in Chikkamagaluru had gone absconding after the incident. Earlier the police had arrested Mohammed Shahbaz (29) and Waheed Hussain (21) in connection with the case. Azam had been absconding.

With Azam’s surrender, the total number of arrests in the case has risen to 3.

The accused persons had thrown nails on the route to the shrine with the nefarious intention to cause accidents of vehicles arriving for the celebrations. As a result, 4-5 vehicles were stranded mid-road with punctured tyres.
