Karkala: Primary & Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar, on Wednesday lauded the efforts of the Government Higher Primary School in Nallur here for reaching out to their students amid Covid-19 and creating a school-like environment for the children at their home.

Interacting with the teachers over the phone, Kumar appreciated them for coming out with a novel idea to involve the students in a systematic manner. He also spoke to the teachers and students individually.

Since August onwards, the school began ringing a bell every day, via a mike set attached to a tree in its premises to encourage students to study at home and has also been conducting regular morning assembly.

During the morning assembly, any one student is allowed to speak, through their mobile phones about any book that they read and the lessons they learnt from it.

On the occasion of Independence Day, the school faculty requested children to wear their uniform and participate in the flag hoisting ceremony with a patriotic fervour from their homes. The response to this initiative too was overwhelming.

Meanwhile, teachers are also conducting classes for the children in small batches under the governments’ Vidyagama programme at eight different places.
